Pine Beds – How Fine Is Pine?

July 29th, 2011

Pine is a soft wood, used often in the production of home furnishings. Its choice characteristics would the aesthetic, authentic look of the wood and its naturally occurring fragrances. They say the smell of pine has a nostalgic sensibility to it.

As a general choice of bed style, pine beds have always been extremely popular and have never showed any sign of decreasing in popularity. Their biggest draw is probably the fact that you can buy a bed and headboard without breaking the bank too much and without comprising on quality. Therefore as a choice, they can give you the aesthetic look you want, provide a comfortable sleeping solution and be affordable to the majority of budgets. With pine beds you need the matching additions so make sure your headboards are pine based as well.

There are various states to purchase pine beds in, which include no colouring at all – giving you a blank canvas to decorate and then match with your chosen bedroom, or they can be stained in dark colours, bright colours or simply varnished.

Additionally pine beds can be changed in the future, thus if you have one colours scheme for a couple of years, you can always change it (along with the bed and headboard) later on.

There are a number of natural pine options and of course antique pine is still very popular with bed buyers, as it often gives a very rustic feel (particularly suitable to the country pad).

Depending on your tastes, you might want to fully redecorate your bedroom not just with a pine bed but other pie furniture. It becomes a style choice and can become a really effective, attractive look with furniture that matches and compliments the bed itself as the focal point of the room. This is when headboards can really make a difference!

Discount bedroom furniture is usually made from materials such as plywood, fibreboard or plastic and wood composites. The difference in quality is staggering. The noticeable disparity between cheap wood furniture, in particular beds, and furniture that uses high quality materials such as pine, is that it is a durable soft wood with a stylistic aesthetic that can reflect a warm, rustic and earthy sensibility.

If you are particularly eco-friendly, you’ll be pleased to hear that many of the pine bed materials are often wood grown in plantations. While this might not be the ideal way to grow and manufacture pine furniture, it saves the remaining pine forests from being plundered and razed to the ground. You can always check with the manufacturer or with the retailer as to the details of the actual materials used to build and craft the bed if you are concerned with such environmental issues. If this is a concern for you make sure you are thorough in vetting all your pine furniture from the headboards to wardrobes and so on.

Pines are generally available in the standard UK sizes from single beds to double beds to king size beds. However, they are often called by alternative names such as bedsteads, antique pine beds or wooden beds. So keep an ear out for the different product descriptions if you are so inclined to go on a quest for some fine pine wood crafted furniture.
