Finding The Perfect Contract Bed

July 29th, 2011

What kind of bed do you have? Are you a single person in a single bed? Or do you share a double bed with a partner? Or are you lucky enough to have a double bed all to yourself? Do you get to read in bed at night with your back up against a soft, quilted headboard?

Whatever your sleeping arrangements, it’s important to find a bed that suits you. After all, a person’s most naturally happy state is when they are asleep in their bed so how can you be sure that the bed you sleep in is right for you? In this day and age there are multiple makes and types of beds available on the market all with different benefits to the individual. This is a simple guide to help you understand what is important to have in your mattress and how you should approach looking for and buying a new bed.

There isn’t really a universal standard of sizes or names for beds, so you have to go by the general descriptive titles provided and take note of the dimensions from the manufacturer.  Sizes include King Size, Super King Size, Single, Double and Queen beds. Here is an approximate list of the sizes you can find most often:

Single beds are approx. 3ft x 6ft 3inches

Double beds are approx. 4ft 6inches by 6ft 3inches

King size beds are approx. 5ft x 6ft 6inches

Super King size beds are approx. 6ft x 6ft 6inches

The three key words you must look for and have in mind when searching for a new mattress and bed-frame are; supportive, comfortable and durable. And yes, size will matter too! You must treat a bed like when you shop for new clothes. You wouldn’t buy something that didn’t fit you. It needs to be the right size, shape and cut for your body in order to be the right choice.

A lot of people forget about the importance of the bed-frame itself and the headboard. The strength of a bed depends almost entirely on the frame that supports it. Wood and metal frames are usually chosen depending on the type of bed you decide to buy and Divans are considered some of the most supportive options when it comes to buying a bed. Take into account the construction materials of the frame as well as the aesthetic it gives off. If you are thinking of expense then wooden frames are generally cheaper and extremely durable although metal bed-frames can last for many years when maintained properly. As for the headboards, just remember to consider both aesthetic style and comfort for your back and head. Headboards can make all the difference to a bedroom and to your sleep.

Just bare in mind that the higher quality of the bed-frame the better the bed will be when it comes to long-lasting comfort and peaceful sleep – which in the long-term is what you should be considering when buying anything you will sleep in.

As far as your mattress is concerned it should support the spine, and it is recommended that the mattress should never really be too firm or too soft. Memory Foam Mattresses are generally excellent for all people, whatever their size, weight or shape as they fit the contours of your body and will match your sleeping patterns and movement while asleep.

Avoid hand-me-down-mattresses at all costs. Second hand beds are the worst possible choices if you are searching for comfort and longevity. The only reason someone is getting rid of an old bed is because it is no longer either of those things. Stick to brand new beds every time. Remember to turn your mattress every once in a while after purchase in order to get the most out of it.

Beds should last you roughly seven to ten years, if you make the right purchase. You should take your bed buying very seriously as making a wrong decision can lead to psychical discomfort and potential problems not too far down the road.

If you can, leave the aesthetics to the headboard you buy. This is something you can change at will – no matter what you do with your decor over the life of the bed and focus on practicality!
