Bed Bugs – Bugging You

July 29th, 2011

“Don’t let the bed bugs bite…” No, really, don’t. They’re everywhere!

Bed bugs are small, so small you couldn’t necessarily notice them with the naked eye. They have a multiplicity of nicknames by the average person from mahogany flats to red coats, and more inextricably, Cimex lectularius Linnaeus by the scientific community. Their bodies are flat oval shapes that darken the older they get.

These little beasties mostly come out at night, mostly. The mattress is where these bugs live… and they like it there. You can also find them in your blankets and on your headboards. They are not just located on the bed itself.

A good sign of whether or not you are infested is if there are little black spots on the mattress or the sheets. The worst thing about these spots is that it is a combination of your blood and their excrement. They bite you because they live off your blood.

Bed bugs are usually found in hotels, at least the lower quality ones.

A US pseudo-scientist fear monger has recently sounded the panic siren by claiming we are due for a bed bug pandemic in the near future! Forget about the troubles in the Middle East, don’t worry about the consequences of global warming, put aside the economic crisis and its ever increasing knock-on effects, the bed bugs are taking over the world! Run for the hills! Arm your children with weapons of mass destruction, build that bed bug bunker in the back garden out of your old headboards, tell all your friends!
